Subiaco Train Station Clock Tower
1997-1999
Mixed media
12m height x 5m base
The large multimedia installation in Subiaco is comprised of several parts: two identical, industrial-looking clock towers tilted towards each other, one carries the clock face, the other carries a mirror to reflect images of the clock. Positioned below are three cameras and a series of monitors on the platform levels relaying video streaming from these cameras focused on different areas of the station. A monthly calendar consisting of a row of lights embedded in the wall and a large mural representing empty rooms in perspective are the other two elements that create this inter-linked artwork. Each component of the piece references aspects of the space - time nexus and uses media technology and perspective distortion to destabilise everyday perceptions of the space and time.
